Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Car Shipping Company

Do Your Homework Before You Book

The auto transport industry has thousands of brokers and carriers. Most are legitimate, but some operate with predatory pricing tactics, poor communication, or inadequate insurance. Asking the right questions upfront will separate the professionals from the problems.

Question 1: Are You a Broker or a Carrier?

This is the most important distinction in the industry. A broker coordinates the shipment and matches your vehicle with a vetted carrier. A carrier is the company that owns the truck and physically transports your vehicle. Both are legitimate, but you should know who you are working with.

Why it matters: Some companies present themselves as carriers but are actually brokers. There is nothing wrong with using a broker, as they often provide better service, wider carrier networks, and competitive pricing, but transparency is a sign of professionalism.

At 4EverMomentum, we are a licensed auto transport broker (USDOT and MC registered). We coordinate every shipment with our vetted carrier network and handle all communication from booking to delivery.

Question 2: What Insurance Coverage Do You Carry?

Every legitimate carrier is required by federal law to carry cargo insurance. Ask for:

  • The carrier's cargo insurance policy number
  • Coverage limits (typically $100,000 to $1,000,000 per load)
  • Deductible amount
  • What is covered vs. excluded (hail, acts of God, etc.)

If a company cannot provide proof of insurance or gets evasive when asked, that is a major red flag. Walk away.

Question 3: What Is Included in the Quote?

Get a clear breakdown of what your quote covers and ask specifically about:

  • Door-to-door vs. terminal-to-terminal: Door-to-door means the carrier comes to your address. Terminal requires you to drop off or pick up at a designated lot.
  • Fuel surcharges: Some companies add these after booking
  • Deposit policy: How much is due upfront and when is the balance due?
  • Cancellation fees: What happens if you need to cancel or reschedule?

A trustworthy company will give you all of this information before you put down a deposit.

Question 4: What Is Your Estimated Pickup and Delivery Window?

No company can guarantee an exact pickup date because carrier schedules depend on load availability, weather, and road conditions. However, a professional broker should give you a realistic window.

Standard expectations:

  • Pickup: Within 1 to 7 business days of your first available date
  • Transit time: 1 to 3 days for under 1,000 miles; 4 to 7 days for cross-country

Be wary of companies that promise exact dates. They are either lying or will charge a significant premium for expedited service.

Question 5: How Do I Track My Shipment and Who Do I Contact?

Communication is where most auto transport companies fail. Before you book, ask:

  • Will I receive a tracking link or updates?
  • Do I have a dedicated point of contact, or will I be routed through a call center?
  • How quickly do you respond to calls and emails?
  • Will I be notified before pickup and delivery?

At 4EverMomentum, every customer gets GPS tracking through our online portal, plus direct access to our dispatch team by phone and email. You will never wonder where your vehicle is.

Bonus: Check Their Reviews and Credentials

Before booking with any company, verify:

  • USDOT number on the FMCSA website (safer.fmcsa.dot.gov)
  • MC (Motor Carrier) number for brokers
  • Google reviews and BBB rating
  • Years in business
The best auto transport experience starts with asking the right questions. A company that answers them clearly and confidently is one you can trust with your vehicle.
